一番面倒だったのは、クライアント機において「Active Directoryユーザー」を「ローカルユーザー」に切り替える作業。クライアントをWindowsドメインから離脱させると、ユーザーアカウントが無くなって(アクセスできなくなって)しまい、クライアントにホームディレクトリだけが残ることになる。単に新しくローカルユーザーアカウントを作成すると、新規ユーザーとなってしまい、ホームディレクトリにある情報(ブックマークやスタートメニューの内容、アプリケーションの設定内容など)が利用できなくなってしまうので、以下の手順で「既存のホームディレクトリ」を利用できるアカウントを作成する。

1. データファイルの移動
   クライアントをWindowsドメインから離脱させる前か、新規アカウントを作成する前に、旧アカウントのホームディレクトリ(仮にユーザー名がfooだとしたら、デフォルトでは"C:\Documents and Settings\foo")にあるデータファイルを別の位置に「移動」しておく。特に"マイドキュメント"の下のデータファイル。理由は後述する。
2. ローカルユーザーアカウントの作成
   ローカルAdministratorでログインして、ローカルユーザーアカウントを作成する。XPだと[コントロールパネル]-[ユーザーアカウント]から「新しいユーザーアカウントを作成する」。システム管理者グループに入れることを忘れずに。
3. プロファイルの指定
   新しく作成したローカルユーザーのプロファイルとホームディレクトリに、これまで使用していたActive Directoryユーザーのホームディレクトリを指定する。XPだと[コントロールパネル]-[管理ツール]-[コンピュータの管理]から「ローカルユーザとグループ」。追加したアカウントのプロパティを開いて、「プロファイル」と「ホームフォルダ」に旧アカウントのホームディレクトリ名を指定する。
4. 新アカウントでログイン
   Administratorからログオフして、新しく作成したアカウントでログインする。プロファイルに指定したディレクトリから、新アカウントのホームディレクトリ(自動的に作成される)にファイルがごっそりとコピーされる。"マイドキュメント"などにデータを山ほど抱えていると、このコピーに死ぬほど時間がかかるので、1)でファイルを可能な限り移動しておく方がよい。
5. プロファイルの修正
   新アカウントからログオフして、再度ローカルAdministratorでログインする。3)と同様の手順で、今度は新アカウントの「プロファイル」と「ホームフォルダ」を空欄にする。これでログオン時とログオフ時のファイルのコピー(同期)が行われなくなる。
6. データファイルを戻す
   1)で移動しておいたファイルを、新アカウントのホームディレクトリに戻す。ホームディレクトリからの相対で同じ位置に戻すこと。
7. アプリケーションの調整
   アプリケーションによっては、データファイルの位置を絶対パスで覚えているので、必要に応じてパス名を変更する。
8. 旧ホームディレクトリの削除
   必要があれば古いディレクトリを削除してディスクスペースを空ける。

ポイントは予めホームディレクトリのデータファイルを移動しておくこと。
